E-book - Consciousness - The Human-paradigm

A deeper understanding

The accepted paradigm is that we are human. We are human beings. I am a man or a woman, I am a human being, that's the human-paradigm. This paradigm, this view, this belief is obsolete now. Still valid in a way, but obsolete. We once believed that the earth was flat, and the earth is still flat when we walk on it! That perspective is still valid for most of our ordinary, daily life, but we know now, we are quite aware, that in truth the earth is not flat, but round! To believe that the earth is flat is fine as long as we don't want to develop beyond the parameters of the village that we were born in. However, we cannot expect to take a Concorde flight, watch satellite television, or use the Internet if we wish to cling to the paradigm of a flat earth. We cannot explore different cultures and different lands. We cannot know and appreciate all the dimensions that open for us with the paradigm of the earth as a globe.

In the same way, the human-paradigm has had its day. The new consciousness-paradigm will change our lives forever. We sometimes apologetically say, "I am only human", and this has been the common belief for ages. However, we are not only human. There is a new paradigm now that opens a completely new dimension. This paradigm is not a continuation of our age-old line of thinking. Though for generations on end we have seen ourselves as human beings, now we can seriously question this assumption. There is a more profound understanding now. There is a deeper understanding of what it means to be alive, of what and who we are.

Beyond the human-paradigm

Life's essential questions cannot be answered very well from the mindset of the human-paradigm. Just like newtonian physics is at a loss when it needs to explain a quantum phenomenon, the human-paradigm does not penetrate life deeply enough to answer humanity's essential questions. Albert Einstein observed, "The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." This certainly holds true for the question of our very life. We know that the human being does not live forever, but we find this scary territory to explore because we are deeply identified with this human being. We avoid the issue. Thinking about death from the paradigm of the human being is bound to give us a scare. To really address life's basic questions we need a new paradigm, a new 'level of thinking'. From the standpoint of the human being, do we not inescapably conclude that we may be overlooking something? Are we missing something? Is this it? From the human being point of view there are no ultimate answers and there is no ultimate meaning. We will need to transcend the human-paradigm if we are to find ultimate answers and meaning. Individual freedom is a relative and limited freedom. It is not complete freedom, limitless and boundless. We need a pivotal paradigm-shift. We need to move beyond the human-paradigm.
